NTPC Limited has invited bids for the execution of an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) package for a 400 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at the NTPC Mouda Super Thermal Power Station in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The tender has been issued under a domestic competitive bidding process and covers the supply, installation, testing, commissioning, and associated services required for the BESS project.
The proposed BESS package will include battery systems, battery management systems, power conversion systems, protection systems, and remote monitoring facilities. NTPC has also included an 11-year Comprehensive Annual Maintenance Contract (CAMC), which will begin after the successful completion of performance testing. The project is planned to be financed through a combination of debt and equity.
Participation in the tender is restricted to Class-I and Class-II local suppliers in line with applicable domestic procurement and manufacturing requirements. Bidders from countries sharing a land border with India, as well as entities having specified Transfer of Technology arrangements with organizations from such countries, will need registration with the competent authority to qualify for participation.
The bidding process will follow a Single Stage Two Envelope system, under which bidders will submit separate Techno-Commercial and Price bids. Interested bidders will require a Class-3 Digital Signature Certificate to access tender documents and submit their bids through the GePNIC portal.
NTPC issued the Invitation for Bids on September 22, 2026, while the sale of bidding documents will begin from September 25. The pre-bid conference is scheduled for October 6, which is also the last date for submission of queries. The deadline for submission of both bid envelopes is October 22, 2026, up to 13:00 hours IST. The Techno-Commercial bids will be opened on the same day at 16:00 hours IST.
The tender requires bidders to furnish an Earnest Money Deposit of INR 10 crore. The EMD can be submitted electronically through an e-Bank Guarantee using the NESL platform or through Electronic Fund Transfer. Physical bank guarantees will not be accepted.
For financial qualification, bidders must have an average annual turnover of at least INR 414 crore during the preceding three financial years. They must also demonstrate a positive net worth meeting the specified requirements. Technical collaborators or associates participating through technical tie-ups are required to meet a minimum turnover of INR 41.40 crore.
The tender is expected to support the integration of large-scale energy storage infrastructure with NTPC’s power generation assets and strengthen the company’s deployment of battery-based storage solutions.
