Renalfa IPP has completed the repowering and hybridization of its Devnya photovoltaic (PV) plant in northeastern Bulgaria, increasing its installed solar capacity from 5 MWp to 65 MWp and adding a co-located battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of 60 MW/165 MWh.
The Devnya PV plant has been operational since 2011. Following the repowering, the facility has been integrated with the BESS to support more flexible and optimized utilization of its existing grid connection.
Solarpro Bulgaria served as the project manager and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the development.
The project forms part of Renalfa IPP’s strategy of repowering existing renewable energy assets and hybridizing them with energy storage. The company aims to maximize available grid capacity, optimize electricity production profiles and support the sale of green baseload products through the co-location of PV generation and BESS.
In November 2025, Renalfa IPP completed a similar repowering and hybridization project at its Kaolinovo PV park in northeastern Bulgaria. The project increased the plant’s capacity from 10 MWp to 60 MWp and added a co-located BESS with a capacity of 33 MW/110 MWh.
Renalfa IPP is an Austrian joint venture between Renalfa Solarpro Group, a Vienna-based clean energy and e-mobility company, and French renewable energy infrastructure fund manager RGREEN INVEST.
The company has more than 806 MW of operational and generating renewable energy assets and over 1 GWh of energy storage in operation. It also has more than 1.1 GW of generating projects and over 3.5 GWh of BESS capacity in the final stages of construction and development.
Renalfa IPP operates across Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and North Macedonia.
