Masdar Clean Power Generation Rises 38% To 40.2 TWh In 2025

Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC, known as Masdar, has reported a 38 percent increase in clean power generation during 2025, with its operating projects producing 40.2 terawatt-hours (TWh) of clean electricity during the year. According to the company’s 13th Annual Sustainability Report, the generation helped avoid approximately 19.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions.

Masdar also expanded its global renewable energy portfolio significantly during the reporting period. Its capacity in operation or under construction increased by around 40 percent to 45.8 gigawatts (GW). Including secured development projects, the company’s total global capacity reached 66.5 GW.

The company’s expansion was supported by strategic acquisitions, including the integration of European clean energy developers Saeta Yield and TERNA ENERGY into its reporting boundary. The acquisitions added wind and solar assets across Spain, Portugal, and Southeastern and Central Europe. They also expanded Masdar’s portfolio of pumped hydro storage projects.

During 2025, Masdar achieved several major project milestones across different markets. The 476 MW Baltic Eagle Offshore Wind Farm in Germany began power generation, while Uzbekistan’s 250 MW Nur Bukhara solar project was inaugurated. Masdar also secured financing for the 2 GW Al Sadawi solar project in Saudi Arabia.

In Abu Dhabi, the company broke ground on a large-scale round-the-clock clean energy project. The system combines 5.2 GW of solar generation with 19 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of battery storage and is designed to deliver 1 GW of continuous clean power.

Masdar also strengthened its access to green financing during the year. In May, the company issued a $1 billion green bond under its updated Green Finance Framework. The issuance received orders worth $6.6 billion, with international investors accounting for 85 percent of purchases. The transaction increased Masdar’s total outstanding green bonds to $2.75 billion.

The sustainability report also highlighted environmental and social initiatives across Masdar’s operations. At the Zarafshan Wind Farm in Uzbekistan, the company implemented AI-powered bird detection technology to help prevent wildlife fatalities. Masdar also conducted 23 biodiversity surveys across its global operations.

On workforce diversity, women represented 30.2 percent of Masdar’s overall workforce and 20 percent of management positions. The company’s Emiratization rate across domestic operations reached approximately 46 percent.

Masdar has set a long-term target of reaching 100 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. Its 2025 performance reflects continued expansion across renewable generation, energy storage, international markets, sustainable finance, and environmental management.
