Masdar Reports 38% Rise in Clean Power Generation to 40.2 TWh in 2025

Clean electricity generation increased from 29.2 TWh in 2024 to 40.2 TWh in 2025, helping avoid approximately 19.5 million tonnes of CO₂e emissions. Masdar attributed the increase to the continued expansion and performance of its global renewable energy portfolio.

The company increased the capacity of projects in operation or under construction by around 40%, from 32 GW to 45.8 GW during the year. Including a further 20.7 GW of secured projects or projects approaching final investment approval, Masdar’s total portfolio reached 66.5 GW by the end of 2025.

Solar and Wind Portfolio Expansion

The 2025 sustainability report included Saeta Yield and TERNA ENERGY within Masdar’s reporting boundary for the first time. Their inclusion expanded the company’s operating platform across Spain, Portugal, Southeastern Europe and Central Europe, adding solar and wind assets as well as a development pipeline that includes pumped hydro storage.

During the year, Masdar achieved several major project milestones across its international portfolio. These included the start of power generation at the 476 MW Baltic Eagle Offshore Wind Farm in Germany, the inauguration of the 250 MW Nur Bukhara solar project in Uzbekistan, and financing secured for the 2 GW Al Sadawi solar project in Saudi Arabia.

Masdar also began construction of a large-scale clean energy project in Abu Dhabi combining 5.2 GW of solar power generation with 19 GWh of battery energy storage. The project is designed to deliver 1 GW of clean electricity around the clock, demonstrating the potential for solar PV and battery storage to provide continuous power at utility scale.

Green Financing Supports Expansion

Masdar continued to raise capital through sustainable finance instruments during 2025. Following the release of an updated Green Finance Framework in March, the company issued a further US$1 billion green bond in May.

Investor orders for the bond reached US$6.6 billion, with international investors accounting for 85% of purchases. The issuance increased Masdar’s total outstanding green bonds to US$2.75 billion.

The company maintained investment-grade corporate credit ratings of AA- from S&P, A1 from Moody’s and AA- from Fitch. Moody’s also reaffirmed its SQS1 “Excellent” rating for Masdar’s updated Green Finance Framework, while Sustainable Fitch increased the company’s ESG score from 71 to 74 out of 100.

Community and Sustainability Initiatives

Masdar reported more than 100 community initiatives across eight countries during the year. The company also expanded biodiversity monitoring and protection across its renewable energy portfolio.

Its 2025 biodiversity initiatives included the use of the Integrated Biodiversity Assessment Tool (IBAT), 23 biodiversity surveys, three conservation partnerships and AI-powered bird detection at the Zarafshan Wind Farm, where Masdar reported no fatalities among target species.

The company also reported progress across workforce and operational initiatives. Women accounted for 30.2% of Masdar’s workforce and 20% of management positions, while the Emiratization rate was approximately 46%, excluding international operations.

Employees across Masdar’s operations completed around 250,000 hours of health, safety and environmental training during 2025.

Masdar said the expansion supports its ambition to reach 100 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, while strengthening its global clean energy business and supporting the UAE’s long-term energy transition.
