The groundbreaking ceremony for the 104 MW Imereti Wind Power Project was held in Tbilisi, Georgia, on September 7, marking the start of the renewable energy project.
The project is planned to feature 13 wind turbine generators with a combined installed capacity of 104 MW. It is being developed through a partnership between Sichuan Energy Investment Development Co. and POWERCHINA.
The Imereti project builds on the companies’ previous cooperation on the Manang Marsyangdi Hydropower Station in Nepal and represents their continued expansion into international energy markets.
POWERCHINA’s Presence in Georgia
POWERCHINA entered the Georgian market in 2010 after securing an international contract to restore the Rikoti Highway Tunnel on the E60 Highway. The project marked the company’s first contract in the Black Sea region.
Since entering the country, POWERCHINA has completed nine projects and currently has two projects under construction, spanning transportation and energy infrastructure.
The restoration of the Rikoti Highway Tunnel received recognition from Georgian authorities, while POWERCHINA’s work on the E60 Highway Section F0 also contributed to the company’s growing infrastructure presence in the country. The highway section was opened to traffic in August 2025.
The company has also undertaken local community initiatives, including employment generation and public welfare activities, as part of its operations in Georgia.
The Imereti Wind Power Project adds to POWERCHINA’s renewable energy portfolio in the country and is expected to contribute to Georgia’s clean energy capacity once commissioned.
