The Indian stock market remained under pressure on October 7, 2026, with both benchmark indices ending lower amid broad-based selling. The S&P BSE SENSEX settled at 72,638.70 points, down nearly 0.6%, while the NIFTY 50 declined 0.71% to close at 22,615.45 points. The weakness was also reflected across the green energy, power, energy storage and electric mobility segments, although select stocks managed to post gains.
Adani Green Energy emerged as one of the strongest performers among clean energy stocks, rising more than 2.2% to ₹1,341.00 on the BSE and ₹1,342.70 on the NSE. Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) also remained resilient, gaining around 1% to close at ₹105.85 on both exchanges. Juniper Green Energy recorded a stronger movement on the NSE, climbing more than 3.4% to ₹280.60.
Kabra Extrusion was another stock to register a gain, increasing 0.65% on the BSE to ₹815.00, although it recorded a marginal decline on the NSE.
However, most other renewable energy and power stocks faced selling pressure. Praj Industries was among the biggest losers, declining nearly 4.9% to around ₹299.70. Websol Energy fell more than 3%, closing at ₹68.90 on the BSE and ₹69.02 on the NSE. Borosil Renewables declined nearly 2.9% to ₹437.80, while Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy dropped over 2.3% to ₹168.30.
Large engineering and power companies also witnessed declines. Larsen & Toubro fell around 2% to ₹3,696.00, while Tata Power declined nearly 2% to ₹344.80. JSW Energy also ended lower by around 1.5%.
In the energy storage and electric mobility segment, battery manufacturers Amara Raja Energy & Mobility and Exide Industries declined approximately 1.3% and 0.7%, closing at ₹733.55 and ₹402.90, respectively. Electric bus manufacturer Olectra Greentech fell more than 1.6% to ₹1,084.70 on the NSE.
Other major energy stocks also remained weak. Reliance Industries declined around 0.9%, while NTPC Green Energy fell over 1.5% to ₹88.58. Inox Wind slipped nearly 2% to ₹67.36.
Overall, the October 7 session reflected cautious investor sentiment, with gains concentrated in a few stocks while the broader clean energy and mobility segment remained under selling pressure.
