Vestas has announced a new 156 MW wind turbine order in Romania as part of its third-quarter 2026 order intake, strengthening its presence in the European renewable energy market. The agreement has been awarded by Electrocentrale Borzești for the Poiana wind project and includes the supply of 24 V162-6.5 MW wind turbines, along with a long-term Active Output Management (AOM) 5000 service agreement.
The Poiana wind project will utilise Vestas’ V162-6.5 MW turbine technology, designed to support efficient electricity generation and reliable operational performance. With 24 turbines, each rated at 6.5 MW, the project will have a total installed capacity of 156 MW.
Under the agreement, Vestas will supply the wind turbines and provide long-term maintenance and operational support through its AOM 5000 service programme. The service arrangement is intended to enhance turbine availability, optimise energy production and support the project’s long-term operational efficiency.
The latest order marks another development in Romania’s expanding wind energy sector, as the country continues to invest in renewable electricity generation to strengthen energy security, diversify its power mix and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
The Poiana wind project is expected to contribute additional renewable energy capacity to Romania’s electricity system once operational, supporting the country’s broader decarbonisation objectives and renewable energy targets.
The agreement also reflects continued demand for advanced wind turbine technologies and long-term service solutions across Europe, where investment in onshore wind infrastructure remains an important component of the energy transition.
For Electrocentrale Borzești, the project represents an investment in renewable power generation infrastructure, while Vestas’ involvement will provide turbine technology and ongoing operational support.
The 156 MW order further strengthens Vestas’ position in the European wind energy market and highlights its continued role in supporting utility-scale renewable energy developments.
Vestas has not disclosed the turbine delivery schedule, expected commissioning date or specific duration of the long-term service agreement.
