Vestas has secured two new wind turbine orders in Vietnam, involving the supply of 16 V163 turbines from its 4 MW platform, along with 20-year Active Output Management (AOM) 5000 service agreements. The contracts mark further progress in Vietnam’s wind energy development under the country’s Eighth National Power Development Plan (PDP8).
The projects will feature Vestas’ V163 wind turbine technology with a site-specific hub height configuration of 155 metres. The turbine configuration has been tailored to meet local project requirements and wind conditions, supporting efficient electricity generation and long-term operational performance.
The orders represent an important development in Vietnam’s renewable energy sector, with the projects among the first wind developments progressing under the country’s Eighth National Power Development Plan. The framework supports the expansion of renewable energy capacity, diversification of electricity generation and improvement of national energy security.
Under the agreements, Vestas will also provide 20-year AOM 5000 service packages covering long-term turbine maintenance and performance optimisation. The service arrangements are intended to support operational reliability, maximise turbine availability and improve energy production efficiency throughout the contracted period.
Commenting on the development, Purvin Patel, Regional President Asia Pacific at Vestas, highlighted the company’s commitment to supporting Vietnam’s evolving wind energy market. He stated that the projects demonstrate how proven turbine technology, customised configurations and local expertise can help advance wind power development under the country’s updated energy planning framework.
Patel also emphasised that Vestas’ 4 MW platform and 155-metre hub height configuration have been selected to address the specific requirements of the Vietnamese market, supporting the country’s energy security and clean energy transition objectives.
The latest contracts further strengthen Vestas’ position in Vietnam and reflect continued investment in wind power infrastructure as the country works to expand its renewable energy portfolio.
The projects are expected to contribute additional renewable electricity generation capacity once operational, supporting Vietnam’s efforts to reduce dependence on conventional power sources and develop a more sustainable electricity system.
Vestas has not disclosed the customers’ identities, project names, individual project capacities, delivery schedules or expected commissioning dates.
