Mecpower Solutions And Navitas Solar To Establish 5 GWh BESS Manufacturing Facility In Gujarat

Mecpower Solutions Limited and Navitas Solar have announced a strategic partnership to establish a 5 GWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing facility in Karjan, Gujarat. The facility is expected to begin operations in the first quarter of FY 2027-28 and will support the growing demand for energy storage solutions in India’s renewable energy sector.

The proposed manufacturing facility aims to strengthen domestic battery storage production and contribute to the development of India’s energy storage supply chain. The collaboration will combine Mecpower Solutions’ experience in renewable energy project development, engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), and execution with Navitas Solar’s integrated manufacturing capabilities.

The two companies have an established business relationship across solar and renewable energy projects. Through this partnership, they plan to expand their activities into battery energy storage manufacturing and develop solutions for utility-scale renewable energy projects, as well as commercial and industrial applications.

The facility is planned as an integrated platform covering manufacturing, project deployment and system integration. Its production capacity is expected to support the requirements of both companies, including EPC projects and utility-scale renewable energy developments. The partners also intend to serve the wider market as demand for battery storage systems increases alongside the expansion of solar and wind power generation.

Battery Energy Storage Systems are becoming increasingly important for managing the variable output of renewable energy sources. These systems can store electricity when generation is high and release it when demand rises or renewable generation declines. They can also support grid stability, improve power system flexibility and enable more efficient utilisation of renewable electricity.

Commenting on the partnership, Setul Shah, Director of Mecpower Solutions Limited, said that battery storage would play a critical role in managing the intermittency of solar and wind power as India expands its renewable energy capacity. He stated that the proposed 5 GWh facility in Karjan would strengthen the company’s position across the energy storage value chain.

Shah added that integrating battery storage manufacturing with the company’s engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) and independent power producer (IPP) businesses would help develop scalable solutions for utility-scale renewable energy projects. The initiative is also expected to support a more flexible and reliable electricity ecosystem.

Ankit Singhania, Director of Navitas Solar, said that battery storage was emerging as a key component of the power sector, enabling improved management of renewable energy generation and more efficient electricity use. He highlighted the importance of building domestic manufacturing capabilities to strengthen India’s clean energy supply chain.

Singhania added that the collaboration would extend Navitas Solar’s manufacturing activities into the energy storage segment and support the evolving requirements of large-scale storage projects.

The planned 5 GWh facility represents a step towards expanding India’s domestic battery storage manufacturing capacity as the country continues to integrate renewable energy into its electricity system.
