Dollar Industries, a company based in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, has been granted permission by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC) to set up the first battery energy storage system (BESS) of 4 mWhr coupled with a 2 MW solar power plant in the state. The TNERC’s order, issued on April 25, 2023, came in response to MP No. 8 of 2023 filed by Dollar Industries. The project will allow the stored energy to be exported to the grid during peak hour slots.
The commission praised the petitioner for taking the initiative in implementing an energy storage system and permitted them to adjust the stored energy exported to the grid in the respective slots and blocks, including the peak hour slot. The current harmonics must be maintained by the petitioner as stipulated in the Supply Code of the Commission, and all applicable chargers and related terms and conditions must adhere to the regulations and orders of the Commission.
The licensee is required to provide the petitioner with a comprehensive and clear communication regarding technical, commercial, operational, and maintenance conditions, metering, protection, billing mechanism, and other related matters. These conditions shall be included in a bilateral agreement to be executed between both parties.
The project marks a significant step in Tamil Nadu’s efforts to transition towards cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.
