TAQA Raises $1.75 Billion Through Green and Conventional Bond Issuance

The Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) has raised $1.75 billion through a dual-tranche US dollar bond issuance, strengthening its funding position for infrastructure investments and sustainable development initiatives. The offering comprises a five-year green bond and a ten-year conventional bond, reflecting the company’s approach to diversifying its financing sources while supporting long-term business growth.

The bond issuance attracted strong investor interest, with total orders exceeding $6.2 billion. The high level of demand enabled TAQA to price both tranches favourably, below its initial marketing guidance. The response highlights investor confidence in the company’s financial position and its strategy to expand operations across the power, water and utility sectors.

Of the total $1.75 billion raised, $850 million has been allocated to green projects. The proceeds from the green bond tranche will support eligible environmental initiatives, reinforcing TAQA’s commitment to sustainable financing. The conventional bond tranche will provide additional funding flexibility as the company continues to invest in its infrastructure and operational capabilities.

Established in 2005 and headquartered in Abu Dhabi, TAQA is one of the United Arab Emirates’ major publicly listed utility companies. Its business operations span power generation, water desalination, and oil and gas production. The company plays an important role in supporting the region’s energy and water requirements through its extensive infrastructure and utility assets.

The latest bond issuance is among the significant post-initial public offering funding transactions in the UAE energy market over the past four years. It also demonstrates the continued availability of international capital for large utility companies seeking to finance infrastructure expansion and sustainability-related investments.

The funds raised will support TAQA’s ongoing capital expenditure programme, including investments in power, water and utility infrastructure. These investments are expected to strengthen its operational capacity and support the development and expansion of essential services.

The latest transaction forms part of TAQA’s broader sustainable debt financing strategy. Earlier in 2026, the company raised $750 million through a dedicated blue bond designed to support water-related initiatives, including water conservation and wastewater management projects.

Green and blue bonds are increasingly being used by energy and utility companies to raise capital for projects with specific environmental objectives. Green bonds generally finance eligible environmental initiatives, while blue bonds focus on marine and water-related sustainability.

TAQA’s latest fundraising reflects this growing financing trend in the Middle East, where major utilities are combining conventional debt instruments with sustainability-linked funding priorities. Strong investor demand for the issuance also underlines the role of international capital markets in supporting infrastructure development and environmental initiatives across the regional energy sector.
