The provincial government of Pangasinan, the Philippines is aiming to generate 1.5 gigawatts of solar power capacity by 2025, with five renewable energy companies planning to construct solar farms in the region.

Pangasinan Vice Governor Mark Lambino cited the abundant solar power potential in the province as a key attraction for renewable energy firms. These companies, including Sinocalan Solar Power Corporation, Renovable Earth Corporation, PV Sinag Power Inc., and 3 Barracuda Energy Corporation, have secured approvals and contracts to develop solar projects ranging from 60 MW to 650 MW capacity.

The provincial government will continue to issue permits until directed otherwise by the national government. Lambino emphasized the importance of scrutinizing project proposals to ensure they meet national standards and environmental protection criteria.

The province’s favorable irradiation conditions in mountainous areas make it suitable for solar farm development.
