EDF Renewables marks the 10th anniversary of the Toul-Rosières solar power plant. Boasting 1.4 million panels, 115 MWp capacity, and situated on a former NATO air base, it powers 55,000 homes annually on 367 hectares.

Closed in 2004, the former air base underwent extensive redevelopment. Environmental diagnostics revealed soil pollution, leading to the removal of 8,000 tonnes to an approved center. Deconstruction included 280 military structures, 170 with asbestos. Construction (June 2011 – May 2012) engaged 700 people, half locally hired.

EDF Renewables, as in all its projects, prioritizes environmental considerations. Preserving wooded islands inside the power station creates biological corridors for wildlife movement. Sensitive environmental zones with natural habitats remain free of solar panels to safeguard biodiversity. The introduction of honey plants promotes bee development. Furthermore, dedicated roosts and nest boxes are installed to relocate bats and birds from disused buildings. These efforts have successfully sustained species presence on the site for a decade.

Carlotta Gentile-Latino, Director of Land Activities France at EDF Renewables , said, “ We are proud and happy to be able to support the region for 10 years in its energy transition. The Toul-Rosières photovoltaic power plant fully participates in the carbon neutrality objective set for 2050 by the Government. As proof of its good operational performance, the plant produced approximately 3% more low-carbon electricity than initially planned.”
