BayWa r.e. embarks on its inaugural VPPA with a healthcare firm, while Boston Scientific achieves its first European VPPA, advancing its decarbonization goals. Over the 10-year agreement, BayWa r.e. will supply extra electricity from the 15.1 MW Alcalรก Solar Photovoltaic Plant near Seville, Spain. In turn, Boston Scientific secures renewable energy covering around 80% of its European electricity consumption.

VPPAs are a great avenue for businesses to procure renewable energy and diminish their carbon footprint.

โ€œOur focus on improving patient health is inextricably linked with the health of the planet, and we have a responsibility to protect the world we all share,โ€ commented Paudie Oโ€™Connor, senior vice president, Global Supply Chain, Boston Scientific.

โ€œThis power purchase agreement underlines our commitment to sourcing renewable energy in one of the many growing regions for our company where environmental sustainability is increasingly paramount for our customers,โ€ he added.

Daniel Parsons, Head of PPA at BayWa r.e., added, โ€œThis is the first VPPA BayWa r.e. has signed with a healthcare company, which shows that renewable energies keep gaining traction throughout a variety of different industry segments. Weโ€™ve been active in the renewables PPA market since its beginning and we are very happy to see this type of green energy solution becoming more and more established across Europe.โ€
