ENOC And DEWA Unveil Pioneering Green Hydrogen Station At Expo City Dubai

In a momentous stride towards sustainability and green transformation, His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer inaugurated Dubai’s pioneering green hydrogen station at the Service Station of the Future (SSoF) within Expo City. The ceremony, attended by ENOC Group’s CEO, Saif Humaid Al Falasi, marked a historic occasion as SSoF becomes the sole station in the region offering green hydrogen, hydrocarbon fuels, and electric charging.

The green hydrogen station, a collaboration between ENOC Group and DEWA, aligns with the National Hydrogen Strategy 2050 and UAE’s hosting of COP28, attracting climate champions worldwide. This initiative accelerates ENOC Group’s partnership with DEWA, leveraging green hydrogen in mobility to support Dubai Green Mobility Initiative 2030 and contribute to the UAE’s hydrogen economy, targeting 1.4 million tonnes annually by 2031, with a vision for 15 million tonnes yearly by 2050.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer emphasized Dubai’s commitment to global sustainability, citing collaboration between DEWA and ENOC Group. The green hydrogen, produced at DEWA’s pilot plant in Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, exemplifies Dubai’s dedication to combat climate change and expedite the transition to carbon neutrality, in line with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050.

ENOC Group’s CEO, Saif Humaid Al Falasi, expressed pride in unveiling the first green hydrogen station, recognizing hydrogen’s pivotal role in Dubai’s journey towards a green economy. The collaboration with DEWA underscores ENOC Group’s commitment to exploring energy solutions for a sustainable future.

Green hydrogen, generated through water electrolysis with renewable energy, emerged as a zero-emission alternative, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing vehicle driving range. The hydrogen refuelling station at Expo City, coinciding with COP28, utilizes DEWA’s 1.25 MW PEM electrolyser, fueling approximately 25 Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEV) in 7 minutes.

ENOC Group’s collaboration with Al-Futtaim Motors/Toyota, the Strategic E-Mobility Partner of COP28, contributes to the green mobility shift. Four hydrogen-powered fuel cell Toyota Mirai vehicles will be provided for testing during COP28, supporting the UAE’s ambition for climate neutrality and its position as a significant hydrogen producer by 2031.

The station offers efficient hydrogen refuelling with dual options at 350 and 700 bar, scalable to meet future demand. ENOC Group collaborates with local authorities to implement codes and standards for safe hydrogen system operations, aligning with global benchmarks.

Since its 2021 opening, SSoF gained global recognition, achieving LEED Platinum certification for its innovative design, renewable energy focus, water efficiency, energy savings, and CO2 reduction. ENOC Group exceeded requirements, securing 93 points and becoming the world’s first LEED platinum-certified service station.
