bp to Expand Integrated Energy Services in Europe with Acquisition of GETEC ENERGIE GmbH, Targeting Commercial and Industrial Customers

In a significant move to broaden its footprint in the commercial and industrial (C&I) energy sector, bp has formally agreed to acquire GETEC ENERGIE GmbH, a prominent independent energy supplier catering to C&I customers in Germany. The acquisition marks a substantial expansion of bp’s influence in the European power and gas C&I supply market, empowering the company to provide comprehensive energy solutions to a wider customer base in Germany and beyond.

GETEC ENERGIE GmbH, boasting over two decades of experience, expertise, and established customer relationships, aligns seamlessly with bp’s strategic goal of evolving into an integrated energy company dedicated to delivering tailored energy solutions. The acquisition is expected to enhance bp’s capabilities and strengthen its engagement with customers in both established energy markets (power and gas) and emerging sectors (renewable power, biogas, and hydrogen).

Carol Howle, bp Executive Vice President of Trading & Shipping, emphasized the critical role of integrating energy solutions across bp’s portfolio. She expressed confidence that the addition of GETEC ENERGIE GmbH will significantly expand and refine bp’s ability to achieve this goal in Germany and, ultimately, throughout Europe.

The agreement follows bp’s successful expansion of its C&I power and gas business in the United States, marked by the 2022 acquisition of EDF Energy Services. Carol Howle reiterated the importance of connecting and integrating energy solutions, emphasizing that the addition of GETEC ENERGIE GmbH will provide new opportunities across energy value chains to C&I customers, offering secure, affordable, and increasingly sustainable energy solutions.
