Summit Ridge Energy Chooses Castillo Engineering to Spearhead Design and Engineering for 82 MW Community Solar Initiative in Illinois

In a significant partnership, Summit Ridge Energy, a leading commercial solar firm, has selected Castillo Engineering to provide design and engineering services for a groundbreaking portfolio of 26 community solar projects in Illinois. These projects, part of the Illinois Shines or Adjustable Block Program, are set to revolutionize clean energy accessibility in the state.

Each of the 3 MW community solar projects will utilize cutting-edge bifacial solar modules mounted on single-axis solar trackers, ensuring maximum efficiency. Notably, these initiatives will not only provide affordable and clean energy to previously underserved residents and businesses but also contribute to the creation of pollinator-friendly habitats, promoting biodiversity and environmental sustainability.

Construction for many of these projects is scheduled to commence in Q1 2024, with completion expected by Q4 2024. Once finalized, this collaboration between Castillo Engineering and Summit Ridge Energy will mark the completion of over 120 projects, totaling an impressive 375 MW of solar energy capacity nationwide.

Pradeep Mohanraj, Vice President of Engineering at Summit Ridge Energy, underscored the company’s decision to partner with Castillo Engineering, citing their extensive experience in community solar projects within Illinois, efficient project management, and tailored solutions. Mohanraj praised Castillo Engineering for their invaluable feedback, enabling projects to stay on schedule and within budget.

The expansion of community solar capacity in the U.S. is on a trajectory of rapid growth, with total capacity expected to nearly triple from 6 GW in 2023 to 14 GW by 2028, according to insights from Wood Mackenzie. With Illinois now ranking as the fourth largest state in community solar operating capacity, the joint efforts of Summit Ridge Energy and Castillo Engineering are poised to contribute significantly to this growth.
