The Jollibee Group is advancing its commitment to sustainable business practices through the activation of 6,300 solar panels at its Canlubang Baking Facility (CBF). This extensive solar panel initiative, in collaboration with First Gen Corporation’s Pi Energy Inc., marks a significant step in the Jollibee Group’s global sustainability agenda, Joy for Tomorrow. The switch-on ceremony, held on January 9, 2024, was attended by officials from both entities and Calamba City Mayor Roseller Rizal.

Jollibee Group’s Supply Chain Head, Michael Ong, emphasized the company’s dedication to minimizing the environmental impact of its supply chain operations. Ong stated, “This is our largest installation to date, but this is also just the beginning. We have more locations planned in the months ahead, and we are determined to accelerate our journey towards carbon neutrality further.”

Calamba City Mayor Ross Rizal commended the initiative for contributing to the city’s sustainability goals and aligning with the government’s call for environmentally responsible business operations.

The Canlubang Baking Facility is the second out of four targeted sites for solar panel installation, following Zen3 in Canlubang, where 3,000 solar panels were installed in November 2023. The remaining two installations are expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2024.

Jollibee Group’s commissaries and logistics centers, including Zen3, support the company’s portfolio of renowned brands in the Philippines, such as Jollibee, Greenwich, Burger King, Red Ribbon, Chowking, and Mang Inasal.

First Gen constructed four rooftop solar power plants for ZFC’s commissaries, cold storage, and logistics facilities, contributing to the vision of a cleaner and greener future. Carlo Vega, First Gen’s Vice President for Power Marketing, Trading, and Economics, expressed gratitude for the trust placed in First Gen by Jollibee Group’s ZFC.

The solar panel installation is part of the Jollibee Group’s broader sustainability efforts, which have already resulted in a 38% reduction in waste, a 23% decrease in water use ratio, and a 21.5% decline in energy use ratio across its manufacturing sites as of 2022.

Jose Miñana Jr., Jollibee Group’s Chief Sustainability and Public Affairs Officer, highlighted the company’s commitment to responsible environmental stewardship, stating, “With this newfound awareness, we embrace the challenge of ‘Joy for Tomorrow,’ and we set out to establish strategies, systems, and initiatives that will allow us to treat our planet more responsibly.”
