Bahrain’s Ministry of Electricity and Water Affairs (MEWA) has received five proposals in response to its Request for Proposals tender for the development and operation of a combined solar power and Electric Vehicle (EV) charging project, on behalf of the Ministry of Information.
The bidding companies and their quoted tariff rates are as follows:
1. Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo ( USD 0.058 or BHD 0.022 / kWh – accepted with condition)
2. Alpha Energy Generations Co. (USD 0.056 or BHD 0.021 / kWh)
3. Micro Centre (USD 0.058 or BHD 0.022 / kWh)
4. Yellow Door Energy Projects Co. (USD 0.061 or BHD 0.022 / kWh)
5. Siraj Power Contracting (USD 0.066 or BHD 0.025 / kWh – suspended)
The initiative includes the installation of grid-connected solar photovoltaic power facilities on the roofs of buildings and parking lots, featuring a minimum capacity of 2.5 MWac (Megawatt AC). Additionally, Electric Vehicle charging stations will be implemented at the Ministry of Information premises.
The Build-Own-Operate-Maintain (BOOM) contract is set for a duration of 20 years. The tender, issued on October 19, 2023, had its bid opening date on February 15, 2024.
Eligible bidders must have successfully commissioned a specified number of grid-tied solar PV projects on a turnkey basis, meeting specific criteria related to capacity and project type, within the last five years.
