Google has announced a partnership with Intersect Power to develop a new data centre in Texas that will be directly integrated with renewable energy generation and storage infrastructure. The project marks a strategic shift in how large-scale digital infrastructure is being built, with computing facilities increasingly being paired with dedicated clean power assets.

According to the announcement, the upcoming facility will be designed as a โ€œpower-firstโ€ data centre model, where renewable energy sources such as solar, along with storage systems, are co-located with high-density computing infrastructure. The approach is intended to improve energy reliability, reduce dependence on grid availability, and support the growing power demands of artificial intelligence and cloud computing workloads.

Texas has emerged as a preferred destination for such projects due to its robust renewable energy capacity, flexible power market structure under ERCOT, and availability of large-scale land parcels suitable for industrial development. The region has also seen increasing investment from technology companies seeking faster deployment timelines for data centre infrastructure.
