In a significant move towards bolstering India’s renewable energy capabilities, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the foundation stone for the Lalitpur Solar Power Project in Uttar Pradesh on Monday. This 600 MW project, a collaborative effort by TUSCO Ltdโa joint venture between THDC India Limited and the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA)โmarks a monumental stride in the country’s pursuit of sustainable energy solutions.
Located in Uttar Pradesh, the Lalitpur Solar Power Project embodies THDC’s dedication to the national agenda of renewable energy expansion. This endeavor not only reinforces India’s commitment to green energy but also represents a pivotal advancement towards a sustainable future. The project, encompassing an area of approximately 2700 acres, is expected to have a profound impact on the regional and statewide energy landscape with its substantial 600 MW capacity.
With an investment of around Rs 3000 crores, the solar park aims to generate about 1200 million units of electricity each year, significantly contributing to Uttar Pradesh’s energy needs. Over its anticipated 25-year lifespan, the project is projected to cut carbon emissions by roughly 21.6 million tonnes, thereby playing a crucial role in climate change mitigation and promoting environmental sustainability.
The foundation laying ceremony highlighted the broader vision of national progress through state development, with Prime Minister Modi emphasizing the importance of economic strength and investment attraction to state growth. He pointed out India’s exceptional economic performance, predicting its rise as the world’s third-largest economy, which would also spur growth in Telangana.
RK Vishnoi, THDC CMD and Chairman of TUSCO, expressed his gratitude for the Prime Minister’s participation in the ceremony, noting the project’s significance in achieving India’s renewable energy targets and contributing to the global effort against climate change.
The event saw the attendance of prominent figures including the Governor of Telangana, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, Telangana’s Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Union Minister of Culture, Tourism & Development of North Eastern Region G Kishan Reddy, and others. Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy RK Singh also marked his presence virtually from New Delhi, further underscoring the project’s national significance.
