Banca March Enhances Sustainability Co-Investment Strategy with €50m Commitment to Alantra Solar’s 1.8 GW Photovoltaic Project via March SolEnergy

Banca March introduces March SolEnergy FCRE S.A., a new co-investment product developed in partnership with Alantra Solar, aiming to establish a diversified platform of 1.8 GW comprising over 40 photovoltaic plants in Spain and Italy, with a notable percentage featuring battery hybridization. The bank and its clients will contribute €50 million to the platform, aligning with their strategy of supporting companies dedicated to sustainable energy solutions.

Participating through a European Venture Capital Fund (VCF), Banca March and its co-investor clients will join strategic investors Reichmuth Infrastructure and Amundi Energy Transition in the platform. These entities will invest in N-Sun Energy S.L., gradually acquiring more than 40 photovoltaic plants in Italy and Spain, key solar energy markets.

Banca March has chosen Alantra Solar as its strategic partner, recognizing its blend of financial and industrial expertise. Alantra Solar, a subsidiary of Alantra specializing in renewable energy and infrastructure investments, oversees the financing process, with Solarig, a company with over 19 years of experience in energy transition infrastructure, developing the plants. The investment platform plans to invest €1.7 billion, with €700 million in equity and €1 billion in debt.

This co-investment product underscores Banca March’s commitment to align with the sustainability goals outlined in the European Union’s Green Deal. The bank aims to support the expansion of renewable energy, particularly solar power, in response to increasing customer preference for sustainability-focused products and services.

Ignacio Montero, Director of Banca March’s Co-Investment Unit, highlights the bank’s dedication to supporting the renewable energy sector to meet evolving demands and decarbonization imperatives. Javier Mellado, Managing Partner of Alantra Solar, expresses pride in securing support from esteemed institutions like Banca March, emphasizing their successful fundraising efforts.

Co-investment is a hallmark of Banca March, reflecting its commitment to client partnerships. Over the years, the bank has co-invested with over 9,000 clients through its institutional SICAVs and committed significant amounts to illiquid assets, involving numerous co-investors, as part of its dedication to shared interests and investment opportunities.
