GE Vernova Accelerates Sustainable Energy Transition In Nigeria

GE Vernova, a purpose-built company dedicated to electrification and decarbonization, reiterates its commitment to advancing Nigeria’s sustainable energy transition. Operating in key segments such as power (gas, nuclear, hydro, steam), wind (onshore, offshore), and electrification (transmission, distribution, conversion, storage, and orchestration of electricity), GE Vernova has been a stalwart presence in Nigeria for over a century.

The dynamic energy landscape in Nigeria, marked by a burgeoning population, industrialization, and surging electricity demand, prompted GE Vernova to host the “Nigeria Energy Dialogue” event. This forum convened senior leaders from governments, financiers, utilities, and the private sector to deliberate on crucial aspects of the country’s energy transition, including generation, transmission, distribution, and consumption.

Kenneth Oyakhire, Managing Director, Services – SSA, for GE Vernova’s Gas Power, emphasized the company’s commitment to Nigeria’s long-term energy needs. Oyakhire stated, “Through collaborative efforts with the government and industry stakeholders, we aim to ensure that power generation assets continue to play a role in a cleaner energy future while delivering reliable, affordable, and sustainable power.”

The “Nigeria Energy Dialogue” explored policy initiatives, technological advancements, and collaborations to address challenges and create a sustainable energy ecosystem. The event aligns with GE Vernova’s history of innovation, leveraging its global experience and an installed base of 2,200 gigawatts to contribute to Nigeria’s energy transition.

U.S. Mission Commercial Counselor Julie LeBlanc highlighted the global leadership of the United States in renewable energy and commended companies like GE Vernova for bringing significant capital, innovation, and proven solutions while adhering to high standards of transparency, quality, and social responsibility.

GE Vernova’s impactful projects in Nigeria include the groundbreaking of the 1,350-megawatt Gwagwalada Independent Power Plant, the commissioning of hydropower turbines for the Zungeru hydropower project, and the provision of aeroderivative gas turbines for the Aba Integrated Power Project. These initiatives underscore GE Vernova’s role in supporting Nigeria’s power infrastructure and contributing to a cleaner and sustainable energy future.
