Expressing gratitude to all involved parties and acknowledging the divine blessings bestowed upon the gathering, officials lauded the Alkalo of Jambur village for hosting the solar plant and extended thanks to local authorities for their warm hospitality.
The commissioning of the plant marks the culmination of a year-long endeavor, highlighting the nation’s commitment to embracing renewable energy and reducing reliance on imported fossil fuels. This milestone project, the first of its kind in The Gambia, underscores the country’s determination to achieve its renewable energy targets, aiming to generate 50% of its power from renewable sources by 2030.
Designed to contribute significantly to carbon emission reduction and the nation’s sustainable energy goals, the utility-scale solar PV plant is poised to become a key player in The Gambia’s energy transition journey.
Looking ahead, the government is actively pursuing additional renewable energy initiatives, including the development of a 150 MWp regional solar power park. Emphasizing the importance of safeguarding these critical infrastructure assets, officials called for collective responsibility in ensuring the plant’s long-term viability.
Acknowledging the invaluable support of international partners, including the World Bank, the European Union, and the European Investment Bank, officials expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their dedicated efforts in bringing the project to fruition.
