In collaboration with the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), Tata Power has started a pioneering demand flexibility program.
This initiative incentivizes shifting water pumping demand to off-peak hours, tapping into renewable solar energy and leveraging Time of Day tariff benefits. With MP Ensystems Advisory Pvt Ltd as a study partner, the program aims to provide clean renewable power for water delivery while reducing MCGM’s power consumption bills.
Tata Power meticulously analyzed demand patterns, identifying 50+ water pumping stations with high-demand flexibility traits. In partnership, they initiated the program at BMC-Bhandup. During the 23-day trial in February 2024, the program achieved a remarkable shift of 345 KW daily for 3 hours, resulting in over 23,000 units of electricity saved and a carbon offset of 21 tonnes. By expanding the program to cover most water pumping stations in Greater Mumbai, Tata Power anticipates a monthly demand shift of about 50 MW, accumulating to 1.8 million units and a yearly carbon offset of 1620 tonnes.
