Over the operational lifetime of the Horizon Solar project, it is estimated that greenhouse gas emissions avoided will be equivalent to powering 1.2 million Texan households. Additionally, the project will bring numerous benefits to the local community, including approximately $30 million in tax payments that will directly support the local County and schools. Throughout the construction phase, the project generated approximately 400 jobs.

Leeward Renewable Energy (LRE) oversees its projects through their entire lifecycle, integrating environmental, social, and cultural aspects. At the Horizon Solar project, the company has instituted several sustainable land management practices. These include introducing sheep grazing for vegetation control in April 2024, implementing a comprehensive biodiversity management plan, and planting native plant species that support pollinators.

“LRE is pleased to have completed another successful project that will provide our longstanding customer, Verizon, with renewable energy,” said Omar Aboudaher, LRE’s Sr. Vice President, Development. “None of this would have been possible without the supportive, wonderful community in Frio County, who welcomed our team and this project.”
