In a significant step towards expanding renewable energy collaborations, the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited (NHPC), India’s foremost hydropower developer, has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Norwegian firm Ocean Sun. The agreement, signed on Monday, aims to explore the potential of floating solar energy technologies in India.
Ocean Sun, a provider of innovative solar technology, specializes in photovoltaic panels mounted on hydro-elastic membranes, a novel approach to harness solar energy on water surfaces. The MOU paves the way for both parties to jointly test and demonstrate these technologies at sites identified by NHPC.
The signing ceremony was conducted in a hybrid format, featuring key figures including NHPCโs Executive Director V.R. Shrivastava, and Ocean Sunโs CEO Kristian Tรธrvold. Distinguished attendees included H.E. Ms. May-Elin Stener, the Norwegian Ambassador to India, Raj Kumar Chaudhary, NHPCโs Director (Technical), and Rajat Gupta, Executive Director (SBDC) of NHPC, all present at the Norwegian Embassy in New Delhi. The event was also marked by the virtual presence of H.E. Dr. Acquino Vimal, Indian Ambassador to Norway, from Oslo.
NHPC Limited, established as the largest entity focused on hydropower development in India, has been actively pursuing diverse renewable energy projects including solar, wind, and green hydrogen, aligning with sustainable development goals.
Ocean Sun, which was founded in 2016 and went public on the Euronext Growth Oslo in October 2020, has expanded its global presence with offices in Oslo, Singapore, and Shanghai. The company is committed to addressing global energy challenges with innovative solutions.
