In a significant step towards boosting renewable energy in India, NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) has partnered with Mahatma Phule Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Technology Limited (MAHAPREIT) to develop Renewable Energy Power Parks and Projects in Maharashtra. This initiative aligns with the Government of India’s strategy for an energy transition to cleaner sources.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formalized in a ceremony held at the NTPC Corporate Office in New Delhi. The MoU was signed by Shri Rajiv Gupta, CEO of NGEL, and Shri Amol Shinde, Chairman and Managing Director of MAHAPREIT, in the presence of Shri Jaikumar Srinivasan, Director (Finance & HR) of NTPC, along with other senior officials from NTPC, NGEL, and MAHAPREIT.
The agreement entails the joint development of grid-connected renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, and hybrid systems, with a potential capacity of up to 10 GW. This collaboration underscores NGEL’s commitment, a subsidiary of NTPC which is India’s largest power utility with over 76 GW of installed capacity. NTPC aims to reach 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032, enhancing its existing 3.5 GW of renewable installations and an additional 28+ GW currently in the pipeline.
MAHAPREIT, a subsidiary of the Mahatma Phule Backward Class Development Corporation (MPBCDC) under the Government of Maharashtra, focuses on the development and management of renewable power resources, furthering its mission to support sustainable energy solutions.
