AMEA Power, a leading renewable energy firm in the Middle East, has initiated construction on the Kairouan Solar Photovoltaic Project in Tunisia. The 120MWp project, valued at $86 million, was celebrated in a groundbreaking ceremony attended by prominent figures including Her Excellency Fatma Thabet Chiboub, Tunisia’s Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy, and Her Excellency Dr. Eman Ahmed Al Salami, UAE Ambassador to Tunisia. Other notable attendees included Mr. Faiรงal Tarifa, General Director of STEG, and Mr. Hussain Al Nowais, Chairman of AMEA Power.

Financed by the International Finance Corporation and the African Development Bank, the project is the first under Tunisiaโ€™s concession regime to achieve financial close. It marks Tunisiaโ€™s inaugural privately-financed solar initiative. “This groundbreaking project is a beacon for future renewable energy projects in the country, supporting the government’s goal of achieving 35% renewable energy by 2030,” stated Hussain Al Nowais.

Expected to commence operations in Q4 2025, the Kairouan Solar PV project will become AMEA Powerโ€™s first operational asset in Tunisia, generating 222GWh of clean energy annually. This output is enough to supply over 43,000 households and will reduce carbon emissions by 117,000 tonnes throughout its lifetime. Additionally, the project will aid in diminishing Tunisiaโ€™s reliance on oil and gas imports.

AMEA Power is committed to contributing to the socio-economic development of the Kairouan governorate through its Community Investment and Development Programs, engaging closely with local communities.
