Empowering Healthcare: Solar-Powered Lights Illuminate 613 Health Centers In The Democratic Republic Of Congo

In a landmark initiative in 2022, GoShop Energy partnered with the Health System Development Program Management Unit (PDSS) to embark on a transformative project aimed at electrifying 613 health centers throughout the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). These health centers, known as FOSA and supported by PDSS, serve as vital hubs for healthcare delivery, catering to the needs of both rural and urban communities across the nation. However, the absence of electricity had long hindered their ability to deliver crucial medical services, especially after sunset and to preserve essential medications like vaccines.

Undeterred by the challenges, GoShop Energy set out with a clear objective: to bring light to where it was most needed. Despite facing logistical hurdles and navigating through remote and inaccessible terrain, our dedicated team remained resolute, successfully delivering and installing solar kits across the breadth of the DRC. The impact has been nothing short of transformative, with 55 general reference hospitals and 558 health centers now equipped with reliable solar power, significantly enhancing the quality of healthcare services.

Spanning multiple provinces including North Kivu, Maniema, Lomami, Sankuru, and many others, these installations have empowered healthcare professionals with the necessary illumination to operate safely at night, ensured energy access for essential medical equipment, and provided means for preserving life-saving vaccines.

The solar kits deployed were meticulously tailored to meet the specific requirements of each healthcare facility. For health centers (CS), the technical specifications included GoSolar photovoltaic panels, BYD lithium batteries, Victron charger converters, solar charge regulators, control modules, and manual bypass inverters. Meanwhile, general reference hospitals (HGR) received even more robust systems, equipped with higher capacity components to meet their increased energy demands.

Despite encountering challenges such as difficult access due to poor road conditions, GoShop Energy’s unwavering commitment remained steadfast. Each solar kit installation marked a significant stride towards enhancing healthcare delivery and improving the well-being of communities, particularly the most vulnerable segments of society.

More than just a technical feat, this project symbolizes a monumental step forward in GoShop Energy’s mission to empower communities across the DRC. In collaboration with PDSS, we have not only illuminated health centers but also kindled hope and security for thousands of individuals.

At GoShop Energy, every project signifies a progressive stride towards a brighter and healthier future for all citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
