The solar plant, located in the province of San Juan de la Maguana, will have a capacity of 63.35 MW. Its construction is part of a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Edesur Dominicana, one of the country’s three state-owned distribution companies.

Featuring solar panels mounted on single-axis trackers, the plant will optimize sunlight exposure by adjusting the panels’ positions throughout the day. This technology will enable the plant to produce 189.07 GWh annually, enough to supply energy to 78,000 households in the Dominican Republic.

Operations at the Pedro Corto solar plant are expected to commence by the end of 2025. The facility will help avoid the emission of over 130,000 tons of CO2 each year, equivalent to removing 50,000 cars from the road. Additionally, the project will be part of ACCIONA Energía’s Social Impact Management program, which allocates a portion of annual revenues to social, environmental, and training initiatives to benefit local communities.

ACCIONA Energía’s involvement in the Dominican Republic began with the Calabaza I photovoltaic facility, which started operations in 2023 with a capacity of 58 MWp. The company is also developing the 162 MW Cotoperí photovoltaic project in collaboration with Cotosolar Holding, SA, and other investors, including the JMMB Sustainable Energy Fund (FES) managed by JMMB Funds and Grupo País. The Cotoperí project, consisting of three photovoltaic plants, will be one of the largest solar complexes in Central America and the Caribbean.
