Statkraft has finalized its acquisition of Enerfin, the renewables subsidiary of Spanish company Elecnor, significantly bolstering its presence in Spain and Brazil. The deal brings a 1.5 GW portfolio of wind and solar power projects, both operational and under construction, along with a pipeline of projects in development.
“This acquisition is a major step for Statkraft, reinforcing our status as Europeโs largest producer of renewable energy and our ambition to become a leading international renewable energy company,” stated Birgitte Ringstad Vartdal, President and CEO of Statkraft. “It positions us among the top 10 wind power producers in both Spain and Brazil, key markets for us. The portfolio aligns well with our current and future growth plans.”
The acquisition includes the addition of 170 Enerfin employees, primarily based in Spain and Brazil. Vartdal warmly welcomed the new team, highlighting their strong track record in project development and renewable operations as a valuable addition to Statkraft’s expertise.
The portfolio presents significant opportunities for the repowering of wind farms, as well as the integration of hybrid and battery storage solutions. This strategic move also enhances Statkraft’s market operations in both Spain and Brazil.
Statkraft has also announced plans to divest the Enerfin portfolio in Canada, the US, Colombia, Australia, and Chile. “We recognize the substantial efforts invested in developing these markets and believe in their future potential. We are committed to finding new owners who can continue to add value,” said Vartdal. The company will focus on a sales process that ensures value preservation and care for all stakeholders involved.
This acquisition marks a pivotal expansion for Statkraft, reinforcing its commitment to renewable energy growth on a global scale.
