East Riding of Yorkshire Council has granted planning approval to Ridge Clean Energy (RCE) for the construction of the Three Oaks Renewable Energy Park (REP). The 39MW facility, situated between Thornholme and Haisthorpe north of the A614, was approved on March 21, 2024.
Three Oaks REP will integrate solar generation with battery storage, providing efficient and reliable renewable energy to power over 8,600 homes. The project is expected to save approximately 268,400 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions over its lifetime.
The project will also establish the Three Oaks Community Benefit Fund, which is projected to offer ยฃ20,000 annually over the project’s 40-year lifespan. Managed by East Riding of Yorkshire Council in collaboration with Burton Agnes and Carnaby Parish Councils, this fund will support local social, educational, and environmental initiatives.
Marjorie Glasgow BEM, co-founder and CEO of Ridge Clean Energy, expressed her satisfaction with the approval: “We are delighted that East Riding of Yorkshire Council has granted consent for the Three Oaks Renewable Energy Park. Our goal is to set a new standard for clean energy projects in the UK through effective integration of renewable energy, community involvement, and environmental protection.”
The site will feature a variety of ecological enhancements, including a 69% net gain in local biodiversity achieved through the planting of new trees, hedgerows, wildflower meadows, and species-rich grasses. The project will also incorporate ground-mounted solar panels with a species-rich seed mix between the rows to encourage wildlife and a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
Following community feedback from public exhibitions, the site access was moved to the western side of the project. Three Oaks is part of Ridge Clean Energy’s broader portfolio of ten Renewable Energy Parks in development, which includes a mix of onshore wind, solar photovoltaics, and battery energy storage systems.
