India takes a monumental stride towards fostering demand for Green Hydrogen and its derivatives with the initiation of a groundbreaking initiative by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). In a significant development, SECI has issued a Request for Selection (RfS) for the procurement of Green Ammonia producers, aligning with the objectives of the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
The tender presents an opportunity for the production and supply of Green Ammonia in India under the SIGHT Scheme (Mode-2A-Tranche-I). With a tender fee of INR 29500 and a Tender EMD of INR 5000, the project completion period spans 36 months. Preceded by a pre-bid meeting on June 28, 2024, the bid submission deadline for soft copies is July 29, 2024, followed by hard copy submissions by July 31, 2024. The bid opening is scheduled for August 1, 2024, utilizing the e-RA tender type.
The RfS, facilitated under Mode 2A of the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Programme, spearheaded by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), aims to catalyze the production of Green Ammonia in India. Through cost-based competitive bidding, SECI seeks to identify producers capable of generating Green Ammonia to meet the country’s growing demand for sustainable energy solutions.
The bidding process encompasses a total available capacity of 5.39 lakh Metric Tonnes (MT) per annum of Green Ammonia production, earmarked for supply to fertilizer companies. Leveraging e-bidding and e-Reverse Auction mechanisms, SECI endeavors to facilitate the procurement of Green Ammonia in an efficient and transparent manner.
Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT): The RfS initiative falls under Component II of the SIGHT Programme, aimed at incentivizing the procurement of Green Ammonia production. SECI, appointed as the implementing agency, plays a pivotal role in driving forward the objectives of the SIGHT Programme, as outlined by MNRE.
Launched on January 4, 2023, with a substantial allocation of Rs. 19,744 crores up to FY 2029-30, the NGHM stands as a cornerstone of India’s clean energy ambitions. Designed to bolster self-reliance through clean energy initiatives, the mission aims to catalyze significant decarbonization of the economy while reducing dependency on fossil fuel imports. By fostering innovation and technology leadership in Green Hydrogen, India aims to position itself as a global leader in the clean energy transition.
