Larsen & Toubro Secures Contract to Build 185MW Solar PV Plant with Energy Storage in Bihar

Larsen & Toubro’s Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) division has clinched a significant domestic contract to construct a 185MW grid-connected Solar PV Plant accompanied by a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Kajra, Lakshisarai district. This initiative is set to play a pivotal role in Bihar’s strategy to leverage renewable energy for sustainable solutions, addressing climate change and meeting growing energy demands.

The BESS, boasting a capacity of 254MWh, will facilitate the storage of solar energy during periods of low demand and discharge it during peak demand times. Beyond storage, the BESS will mitigate generation fluctuations, regulate frequency, and provide voltage support. Notably, it includes black start capability, enabling swift re-energization of the grid following outages.

Commenting on the contract, Mr. A Ravindran, Senior Vice President & Head of Renewable Strategic Business Group, PT&D, remarked, “This addition to our Renewable EPC portfolio, totaling 18 GWp, reinforces our leadership in solar and wind generation projects, both commissioned and ongoing. Our extensive experience in handling over 1.5 GWh of storage capacity positions us as the preferred EPC partner globally.”

Mr. T Madhava Das, Whole-time Director & Senior Executive Vice President (Utilities) at Larsen & Toubro, highlighted their expertise in diverse renewable energy technologies, encompassing ground-mounted and floating solar generation, grid-scale and distributed energy storage systems, efficient transmission and distribution networks, and digital energy solutions. He emphasized their track record in delivering large-scale clean energy projects across India, the Middle East, and the Far East, ensuring safety, quality, and timely execution.
