The inauguration of a solar-powered water project in Hazm al-Odain district, Ibb province, on Saturday marked a significant step towards improving access to clean water.
Funded by the local authority’s “General Administration of Initiatives” at a cost of 30 million YER, the project aims to ease the burden on residents in obtaining potable water amid challenging circumstances.
Bandar al-Ahdal, the Director General of Initiatives in the province, emphasized the project’s role in revitalizing vital water infrastructure and incorporating sustainable energy solutions.
Highlighting water projects as a priority in the province’s initiative plan, he stressed their importance in reducing costs and ensuring safe water accessibility.
Zakaria al-Masawa, the Director of Hazm al-Odain district, pointed out the project’s economic impact on meeting community water needs.
He expressed gratitude to the Initiatives Department and local authorities for supporting the project, which includes three solar-powered water distribution points. This switch to solar energy is expected to substantially reduce operational costs compared to traditional electrical pumping methods.
The initiative demonstrates Yemen’s commitment to using renewable energy solutions to enhance essential services and strengthen resilience amid ongoing challenges.
