NHPC REL and Tata Power Renewable Energy Forge Strategic Alliance to Solarize Government Buildings Under PM Surya Ghar Yojna

In a major step towards advancing renewable energy, NHPC Renewable Energy Limited (NHPC REL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of NHPC Limited, has partnered with Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) to implement rooftop solar projects on government buildings across India. This initiative is part of the ambitious PM Surya Ghar Yojna Scheme, which aims to achieve 100% solarisation of government-owned buildings by December 2025.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed on July 17, 2024, at the NHPC Office Complex in Faridabad. The agreement was formalized by Sh. S.P. Rathour, CEO of NHPC REL, and Sh. Deepesh Nanda, CEO and MD of TPREL, in the presence of Sh. R. P. Goyal, CMD; Sh. Uttam Lal, Director (Personnel); Sh. R.K. Chaudhary, Director (Technical & Projects); Sh. V.R. Shrivastava, ED (REGH); Sh. Sandeep Kumar, ED (CMD-Sectt.); Sh. Anuj Kapoor, ED (Finance) from NHPC; and Shri Bhavesh Bhayani and Shri Vikrant Dhankhar from TPREL.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has designated NHPC Limited as the Scheme Implementing Partner (SIP) to execute the rooftop solar projects, which will be carried out through NHPC-REL. TPREL, a leader in the solar power sector, will leverage its extensive expertise to ensure the timely and efficient completion of these projects.

This strategic partnership aims to transform India’s energy landscape by promoting cleaner and greener energy solutions through the utilization of rooftop spaces on government buildings.
