Prime Infra and its wholly-owned subsidiary, Prime Solar Solutions Corp., officially inaugurated their 64-megawatt solar power plant in Maragondon, Cavite. This significant event marks a major milestone in the company’s commitment to advancing renewable energy projects in the Philippines.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several prominent figures, including Marissa Cerezo, Director of the Department of Energy Renewable Energy Management Bureau (DOE-REMB); Monalisa Dimalanta, Chair and CEO of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC); Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla; Maragondon Mayor Lawrence โUmbeโ Arca; Prime Infra President and CEO Guillaume Lucci; and Prime Solar President and CEO Cheryll Len Mendoza.
Guillaume Lucci, President and CEO of Prime Infra, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “The completion of the Maragondon solar power plant is a significant milestone for Prime Infra’s energy portfolio. We have reached this point thanks to like-minded partners who not only envision a more sustainable future but actively work towards achieving it. The plant inaugurated today is certainly a part of Prime Infraโs wider sustainable strategy and continues to be very much aligned with our purpose of building better lives and resilient economies through critical infrastructure.”
The Maragondon solar power plant is one of two facilities under Prime Solar’s first project, collectively capable of supplying up to 128 megawatts of clean, renewable energy. The other plant, located in Tanauan, Batangas, complements the efforts to enhance the country’s renewable energy capabilities.
Lucci highlighted the project’s capacity, emphasizing that it is expected to power approximately 84,000 households and displace over 100,000 tons of coal annually. “Trust that we will continue to support the national governmentโs agenda transition to clean energy sources, and we will proactively explore opportunities within the renewable space while capitalizing on innovative solutions to achieve energy security, dependability, and affordability,” Lucci added.
Prime Solar has also secured a 50-megawatt, 20-year power supply agreement with Meralco, with the remaining output being supplied to the grid. This partnership reflects the company’s dedication to providing sustainable energy solutions while supporting national energy goals.
During the event, DOE-REMB Director Marissa Cerezo praised Prime Infraโs solar power plants for contributing to the national governmentโs efforts to foster clean and sustainable energy resources. “The DOE recognizes that the green energy generated from this project will ensure sustainable and secure energy. Moreover, this project will bring opportunities to the local community by creating jobs, stimulating economic growth, and attracting investments. It is not just a facility. It is a catalyst for change,” Cerezo remarked.
ERC Chair Monalisa Dimalanta also commended Prime Infra and Prime Solar for their dedication to providing reliable power through renewable sources. “Transitioning to a cleaner energy system requires hard work from all of us. We will have to repeat this effort, this partnership between public and private sector participants several times over to ensure that electricity keeps flowing to light our homes and power our economy in a clean and sustainable manner,” she stated.
Dimalanta further emphasized the long-term benefits of the project, noting that it will supply clean energy to Meralco consumers at a fixed price for the next 20 years, insulating consumers from global oil or coal market fluctuations. “As hosts to this project, the people of Batangas and Cavite will enjoy additional financial benefits from each kilowatt-hour sold by the project. The team at Prime Solar takes pride in supplying clean energy to our systems,” she added.
Governor Jonvic Remulla acknowledged the province’s partnership with Prime Infra through socially relevant projects across sectors such as sustainable energy, water, and waste management. “We need energy, power, water, and waste disposal. We are working together with Prime Infra to create a better province and a better country,” Remulla said.
Mayor Lawrence โUmbeโ Arca highlighted the plant’s role in Maragondonโs transition to cleaner energy, aligning with the administrationโs push for renewable energy projects to address recurring power interruptions. “The town of Maragondon is blessed with projects like this in the field of renewable energy, aligned with our president’s directive to advance renewable energy projects to solve power interruption issues. Through proper management and planning, Maragondon will significantly contribute to our country’s sustainable electricity,” Arca expressed.
Constructed in April 2023, both the Maragondon and Tanauan solar power plants employed advanced execution technology, ensuring swift progress to full completion. These projects underscore Prime Infra’s dedication to building a sustainable energy future and fostering resilient economic growth through renewable energy initiatives.
