Global packaging solutions provider Sealed Air has chosen VSB Group as its partner for renewable power supply at its production facility in Alsfeld, located in the state of Hesse in Germany. The two companies have signed an on-site Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), under which VSB Integrated Energy Solutions (IES)โa project developer under VSB Group and part of TotalEnergiesโwill also take responsibility for planning and installing a 751 kWp rooftop photovoltaic system.
In an environment where industrial electricity prices are increasingly volatile, on-site PPAs offer manufacturers a practical approach to securing long-term cost stability, reducing exposure to energy market fluctuations, and lowering carbon emissions. The PPA between Sealed Air and VSB will run for a 20-year term, ensuring a reliable supply of on-site renewable electricity. Construction of the 751 kWp rooftop system is scheduled to begin in spring 2026, with commissioning expected in the second half of the year. The installation will occupy roughly 3,300 square meters of rooftop space and will supply a significant portion of the facilityโs energy needs through direct solar generation.
Frederic Wagner, Managing Director of VSB IES, noted that the agreement reflects VSBโs long-standing expertise in renewable energy development. With more than three decades of experience, he emphasized that the company focuses on economic feasibility, technical precision, and long-term customer partnerships. He stated that VSB is pleased to support Sealed Air in adopting an innovative approach to sustainable energy supply.
Dr. Felix Grolman, CEO of VSB Group, highlighted that renewable energyโparticularly systems designed for on-site consumptionโhas become an essential tool for energy-intensive industries. By generating and consuming their own green electricity, companies can strengthen their energy independence, reduce operational costs, and accelerate decarbonisation across their value chains. These efforts also contribute to improved competitiveness within Germany and throughout Europe.
Henrik Schneider, Engineering Manager at Sealed Air Verpackungen GmbH, explained that the new rooftop photovoltaic system and PPA will deliver measurable operational benefits. The company expects to reduce its energy procurement costs by 15 percent, cut annual carbon emissions by approximately 440 tonnes, and further enhance its ESG performance. He added that these improvements represent a clear competitive advantage in the packaging sector.
