The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has announced its commitment of up to โ‚น7.3 billion (approximately USD 88 million) to support the ENGIE Solar Power Project in Gujarat, India. This initiative is part of a co-financing effort with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), which together will provide up to โ‚น14.6 billion (about USD 175.9 million) in project finance senior debt in local currency. The funding will facilitate the development, construction, operation, and maintenance of a 400 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in Surendranagar, Gujarat.

Sanchi, India’s First Solar City, Faces Power Crisis

Sanchi, India’s pioneering solar-powered city, has faced significant challenges one year after its ambitious launch. Initially, the city boasted solar streetlights, drinking water stalls, and even an LCD screen at the Stupa intersection, all aimed at promoting sustainable living. However, these solar innovations have largely failed, with most lights now nonfunctional and awaiting repairs. The once-promising green energy project now stands as a stark reminder of its unmet potential.

Manyachiwadi Achieves Milestone As Maharashtra’s First Solar Village With Complete Renewable Energy Coverage

Maharashtra has achieved a landmark with Manyachiwadi in Satara district becoming the stateโ€™s first fully solar-powered village. This milestone, achieved through 102 rooftop solar systems, provides 100% of the village’s electricity, eliminating residents’ electricity bills. The solar setup includes street lights, public water supply, and local services like the school and gram panchayat office. This project, part of Maharashtra’s plan to solarize 100 villages, also supports the state’s broader green energy goals and rural electrification.
