Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Kharabsheh, announced today that the Jordanian Cabinet has decided to overturn its 2019 ban on new approvals for large-scale electric power projects using the transit method or net metering for projects exceeding 1 megawatt. This move, effective in 2024, coincides with the implementation of a new system regulating the connection of renewable energy facilities to the national grid and provides exemptions for renewable energy sources and energy consumption systems.

Dr. Kharabsheh explained that this decision addresses growing demands from citizens and businesses for renewable energy solutions. The Cabinetโ€™s action aligns with the recently amended Law No. 12 of 2024 on Energy and Energy Efficiency, which supports the development of renewable energy systems and energy rationalization practices.

The newly approved regulations aim to enhance the efficiency and utilization of renewable energy sources, contributing to Jordanโ€™s energy security and sustainability goals. They will also establish clear mechanisms for connecting renewable energy systems to the grid, ensuring the electrical systemโ€™s safety, operational efficiency, and equitable approval distribution among subscribers.
