Iraqi Council Of Ministers Approves Solar Energy Initiative For Residential Areas

The Iraqi Council of Ministers has approved a new initiative to install solar energy systems in homes across the country.

The Prime Minister’s media office stated that “Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani chaired a special meeting aimed at addressing the electricity situation, during which plans, programs, and solutions proposed by the Ministry of Electricity and relevant authorities were examined.”

The statement added, “During the meeting, a plan to deploy solar energy systems in residential areas was approved.” This involves contracting with reputable companies to alleviate pressure on the electrical grid. Additionally, the Ministry of Electricity’s long-term strategy for generation, transmission, and distribution was discussed, along with preparations for the upcoming summer, for which funding has been approved and implementation will commence immediately.”

The statement further emphasized, “The meeting also approved a new economic model for purchasing electricity, developed after extensive consultations and under the guidance of the Prime Minister, with the involvement of the advisory firm KBR. This model was reviewed and recommendations were made to optimize its effectiveness.”
