In a pivotal move towards promoting sustainable energy practices, the Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) and the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Region IV-A have formalized a partnership through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). This agreement marks a significant step in the countryโs efforts to boost energy efficiency and reduce electricity costs in government facilities.
The MOA outlines a collaborative effort on the โRooftop Solar Photovoltaic for Government Buildings Project,โ also known as the RGB Project. This initiative is set to begin with the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on rooftops of NEDA Region IV-A facilities, with the broader goal of reducing electricity consumption across public buildings.
PNOC President and CEO Oliver B. Butalid and NEDA Assistant Secretary Agnes E. Tolentino signed the MOA, with Assistant Regional Director Carmel P. Matabang also in attendance. Both Butalid and Tolentino highlighted the projectโs potential to drive sustainable energy solutions and improve energy efficiency within government operations.
โPNOC is committed to supporting the Department of Energyโs energy transition agenda, particularly by advancing energy efficiency among government entities. Our role includes providing rooftop solar PV systems, along with demand aggregation (Retail Electricity Supply) and smart air conditioning technology,โ Butalid stated.
NEDA Region IV-A, recognized for its expertise in socioeconomic planning, has prioritized energy efficiency as a crucial element in optimizing government operations. The RGB Project promises significant cost savings and enhanced energy management for the regionโs facilities.
Assistant Secretary Tolentino expressed optimism about the partnership, saying, โI hope this collaboration is just the beginning of more initiatives, not only within NEDA but across the entire CALABARZON region.โ
The RGB Project, spearheaded by PNOC, aims to deliver comprehensive energy efficiency solutions to government buildings. Additional agreements with other government agencies are anticipated as part of this initiative.
By leveraging solar PV technology, the project seeks to lower electricity expenses while supporting the Philippine governmentโs goals for renewable energy adoption and climate change mitigation. Both PNOC and NEDA Region IV-A are confident that their joint efforts will set a precedent for other government agencies, demonstrating the advantages of transitioning to renewable energy sources.
