NamPower and the German Development Cooperation, via KfW Development Bank, have finalized a N$1.3 billion loan agreement to fund the construction of a 100 MW solar power plant.
The Rosh Pinah 100 MW PV Project will be situated near the town of Rosh Pinah in southern Namibia, capitalizing on the region’s optimal solar energy conditions. Its proximity to the existing Namibian power grid will minimize additional costs related to new transmission infrastructure.
The loan will cover nearly 80% of the project’s total cost, with NamPower providing the remaining 20% from its own funds.
NamPowerโs Managing Director, Mr. Kahenge Haulofu, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasizing the alignment of economic growth with environmental stewardship. KfW Development Bank’s Country Director, Ms. Beatrice Lucke, noted that the projectโs expansion from 70 MW to 100 MW is made possible by the combined 20% self-funding and concessional loan.
Once completed, the facility is expected to enhance energy security, diversify Namibia’s energy mix, and serve as a model for future large-scale renewable energy projects.
