Korean Local Governments Collaborate to Lead Hydrogen Industry at H2 MEET 2024: Showcasing Regional Visions and Innovation Blueprints

The H2 MEET Organizing Committee, chaired by Nam-hoon Kang, President of the Korea Automobile & Mobility Association, has announced the participation of various Korean municipalities in H2 MEET 2024, Koreaโ€™s largest hydrogen industry exhibition. The event, scheduled from September 25 to 27 at KINTEX in Goyang City, will highlight regional hydrogen industry models, innovative technologies, and achievements in hydrogen energy development.

Regional Hydrogen Visions and Achievements

Several municipalities are set to promote their region-specific hydrogen industry models at H2 MEET 2024, reflecting their ambitions to play key roles in the global hydrogen market:

  • Gangwon State Free Economic Zone Authority will introduce advancements in hydrogen energy through its Bukpyeong hydrogen energy innovation cluster, supported by government initiatives.
  • Gwangju Free Economic Zone Authority will present its Smart Energy Industrial District, integrating future energy solutions with AI and mobility advancements.
  • Gyeonggi Free Economic Zone Authority envisions creating a future innovation growth hub along the West Coast Economic Belt, with a focus on hydrogen economy cities and eco-friendly mobility clusters.
  • The City of Miryangiryang will introduce the Nano Convergence Smart Green National Industrial Complex, aiming to commercialize nano convergence industries to lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
  • Buan County will showcase its Green Hydrogen Production Cluster, aimed at increasing energy self-sufficiency and reducing carbon emissions through water electrolysis technology and hydrogen fuel cells.
  • Ulsan Free Economic Zone Authority aims to position itself as a hydrogen/low-carbon energy hub for Northeast Asia, integrating hydrogen mobility with eco-friendly energy and ICT.
  • Uljin County will highlight large-scale clean hydrogen production efforts within its Nuclear Hydrogen National Industrial Complex.
  • Pohang City will share successes from its hydrogen fuel cell cluster and hydrogen town project.

Techno Park Innovations and Regional Collaborations

Special sections at H2 MEET 2024, such as Techno Parks, will showcase hydrogen-related technologies and products developed by local enterprises. For example:

  • Chungnam Techno Park will introduce a support platform for electrolysis components critical for green hydrogen production.
  • Jeonbuk Techno Park will promote innovative products from local companies.
  • Pohang Techno Park will focus on its hydrogen fuel cell generation cluster and the Pohang Hydrogen City project.

Fostering Global Business Opportunities

According to the H2 MEET Organizing Committee, the event is designed to promote regional achievements in the hydrogen industry while fostering international business opportunities. “With global interest in carbon neutrality and hydrogen energy growing, H2 MEET 2024 provides a vital platform for domestic hydrogen industry growth,” said a spokesperson.

A Global Platform for Hydrogen Innovation

H2 MEET 2024 is expected to serve as a platform where local governments and businesses can highlight their contributions to the hydrogen economy and explore global collaboration opportunities. The event will be held alongside H2WORLD, Koreaโ€™s first hydrogen-specific exhibition, further solidifying South Koreaโ€™s position in the global hydrogen industry. Additionally, K-BATTERY SHOW 2024 and HARFKO 2024 will be co-located at KINTEX, focusing on renewable energy technologies and industrial solutions.

The exhibition is hosted by key organizations, including the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association, H2KOREA, HyNet, and the Korea Energy Agency, further emphasizing South Koreaโ€™s commitment to a clean energy future.
