IEA And IIT Delhi Collaborate On Clean Energy Innovation And Transitions

The International Energy Agency (IEA) and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on clean energy technologies and transitions. The agreement, signed in Paris, aims to promote energy innovation that helps reduce emissions.

IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol and IIT Delhi Director Rangan Banerjee, along with Deputy Director for Strategy & Planning Ambuj Sagar, signed the MoU in the presence of India’s Ambassador to France, Jawed Ashraf. The MoU focuses on key areas such as policy analysis and sharing information about energy technology trends, especially in emerging and developing economies.

IIT Delhi, established in 1961, is one of Indiaโ€™s leading technology institutes. Recently, the IEA and IIT Delhi published a joint report titled “Clean Energy Innovation Policies in Emerging and Developing Economies.” This report looks at economic opportunities and the role of policy in growing the new energy economy in these markets. It was launched at the 15th Clean Energy Ministerial in Brazil, where industry experts and government officials gathered.

Fatih Birol expressed excitement about working with IIT Delhi on important global energy challenges, highlighting the potential for growth in the new energy economy. He emphasized that effective policies, investment, and expertise are needed to overcome barriers and support countries in adopting clean energy technologies.

Rangan Banerjee stated that the partnership with the IEA would help IIT Delhi address climate challenges and prepare graduates for future demands. Together, they aim to develop strategies for managing the transition to net zero in developing and emerging economies.
