CERC Approves UPPCL’s 1,000 MW Solar Power Procurement Plan
UPPCL has filed a petition for the procurement of 1,000 MW of solar power through a long-term agreement, approved by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) on June 1, 2024. The tariffs, ranging from ₹2.52 to ₹2.53 per kWh, were set for four solar power developers. CERC regulations allow a trading margin of up to ₹0.07 per unit. However, if SECI fails to provide payment security, the margin will be capped at ₹0.02 per unit. UPPCL was advised to negotiate lower margins for future agreements to benefit consumers.
Operational Guidelines For PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana – Streamlining Service Charge Implementation For Rooftop Solar Success
The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, with a ₹75,021 crore budget, aims to install rooftop solar plants in one crore households by 2026-27. The Ministry issued guidelines for managing service charges, with ₹657 crore allocated for implementation. Key agencies, including the National Programme Implementation Agency (NPIA) and State Implementation Agencies (SIA), will oversee the scheme, receiving financial support. Service charges fund IT systems, manpower, and operations, ensuring smooth execution. The scheme also includes innovative projects like the Model Solar Village initiative.
UPPCL Secures Approval For 500 MW Solar Power Procurement At ₹2.60/kWh With Revised Trading Margin
UPPCL has filed a petition for approval of a 500 MW solar power procurement through a 25-year long-term agreement. This power will be sourced via tariff-based competitive bidding under the Solar Inter-State Transmission System Tranche XI Scheme. The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) approved a tariff of ₹2.6 per kWh, with a trading margin of ₹0.07 per unit. If SECI fails to provide adequate payment security, the margin will be reduced to ₹0.02 per unit. The PSA and SPSA agreements were also approved.
Draft Regulations For Rooftop Solar Systems In West Bengal: Empowering Consumers And Ensuring Grid Stability With 5 kW Capacity Limit
The West Bengal Electricity Regulatory Commission (WBERC) has introduced draft regulations for grid-connected rooftop solar systems, allowing consumers to install solar systems with options for self or third-party ownership. The maximum capacity is 100% of the sanctioned load, with net metering for systems up to 5 kW and gross metering for larger installations. The regulations outline energy accounting, tariff structures, technical standards, and safety measures. A streamlined application process and clear responsibilities for distribution licensees and prosumers aim to promote solar adoption.
ACME, Juniper Green, And Sembcorp Wins Big In SECI’s 600 MW Wind Solar Hybrid Power Auction
SECI completed its 600 MW Wind-Solar Hybrid Power Projects auction under Tranche IX, awarding projects to ACME Solar, Juniper Green Energy, and Sembcorp Green Infra. ACME secured 300 MW and Juniper 150 MW at ₹3.25/kWh, while Sembcorp won 150 MW at ₹3.26/kWh. These competitive bids highlight decreasing tariffs in hybrid energy, supporting India’s renewable goals. The selected developers will sign 25-year Power Purchase Agreements with SECI, marking a significant step toward increasing the country’s renewable energy capacity and reducing fossil fuel dependence.
India’s Renewable Energy Surge: Over 1 Million Jobs Created In 2023
India’s renewable energy sector created approximately 1.02 million jobs in 2023, contributing significantly to the global workforce of 16.2 million, according to IRENA. Hydropower was the largest employer, providing around 453,000 jobs, while the solar PV industry employed 318,600 people. Wind energy added 2.8 GW of capacity, generating 52,200 jobs. Government initiatives, such as the National Green Hydrogen Mission and PM KUSUM, are driving this growth, supporting India’s transition to clean energy and enhancing economic sustainability.
GERC Reviews 35 MW Solar Power And Battery Storage Agreement For Sustainable Energy Solutions
A power purchase agreement is up for approval between a major power corporation and a state-run energy generation company for a solar project featuring battery storage technology. The 35 MW solar power plant will be located near a thermal power station and includes a 57 MWh battery energy storage system to enhance reliability and efficiency. As a pilot initiative, it may set a precedent for future projects. Stakeholders are invited to submit objections or suggestions, promoting transparency and public engagement in sustainable energy solutions.
NHPC Invites Bids For 1200 MW Solar Power Projects Across India
NHPC Limited has opened a tender for selecting solar power generators to establish 1200 MW of ISTS-connected solar power projects across India. The bidding process, which started on October 8, 2024, will close on November 4, 2024, with bids opening on November 8, 2024.
