Indian Power 2047: CEA Concludes Brainstorming Conclave on India’s Power Sector Future

The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) successfully concluded its two-day Brainstorming Conclave on the โ€˜Indian Power Sector Scenario 2047,โ€™ laying out a comprehensive plan for the nationโ€™s power sector growth over the next two decades. With over 1,500 delegates, including senior officials and industry leaders, the event highlighted the critical roadmap for expanding Indiaโ€™s energy capacity and transitioning to sustainable power.

Key topics discussed included the expansion of hydropower, integration of energy storage systems, modernization of distribution networks, and fostering cross-border energy cooperation. The sessions also focused on financing the energy transition, capacity building, and the role of green hydrogen in achieving India’s ambitious energy goals.

Union Minister for Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal, inaugurated the event, outlining the governmentโ€™s strategy to meet rising energy demands while shifting towards cleaner sources. Other prominent speakers, including Minister of State for Power Shri Shripad Yesso Naik and Secretary of Power Shri Pankaj Agarwal, emphasized the importance of meticulous planning and collaboration among public and private stakeholders to ensure alignment with the country’s emerging energy priorities.

The event also saw active participation from senior officials across states, including representatives from Kerala, Rajasthan, and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. Insights on base load plants’ role in maintaining energy security, the importance of a modern transmission system, and strategies for financing the energy transition were facilitated by experts from EY and KPMG.

Shri Ghanshyam Prasad, Chairperson of CEA, highlighted the event’s significance, stating, โ€œThis marks the beginning of discussions about a roadmap to 2047, the 100th year of our independence.โ€ He also noted the formation of task forces to ensure actionable steps on the conclaveโ€™s recommendations.

As the CEA celebrates its Golden Jubilee, this conclave underscores its crucial role in leading India’s power sector transformation. With ambitious targets like 2,100 GW of capacity by 2047, India aims to balance growth with environmental stewardship, paving the way for its future as a global economic powerhouse.
