EWEC (Emirates Water and Electricity Company), a leading entity responsible for the integrated planning, purchasing, supply, and dispatch of water and electricity across the UAE, has announced a strategic Collaboration Framework Agreement (CFA) with Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC (Masdar), a global leader in clean energy.

The agreement sets out a structured roadmap to accelerate the development and deployment of utility-scale renewable energy projects across Abu Dhabi and the wider UAE, supporting efforts to diversify the national energy mix, enhance energy security, and enable industrial growth. A key focus of the framework is also to maximize In-Country Value and support the development of Emirati talent and expertise within the energy sector.

The agreement was formally signed by Ahmed Ali Alshamsi, Chief Executive Officer of EWEC, and Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, Chief Executive Officer of Masdar. It establishes a streamlined approach for Masdarโ€™s participation in EWECโ€™s project engagement process, covering the full lifecycle from early-stage development through to financial close.

This framework is designed to improve efficiency in project execution while maintaining the transparency and independence of EWECโ€™s competitive procurement system.EWEC and Masdar already share a strong history of collaboration on major renewable energy projects in the UAE, including the Al Dhafra Solar PV plant, Al Ajban Solar PV project, Khazna Solar PV project, and a large-scale round-the-clock solar and battery storage initiative.

The new agreement builds on this foundation, aiming to further enhance coordination and accelerate the delivery of future clean energy infrastructure. It also supports more efficient project planning and execution while ensuring long-term reliability of electricity supply. According to Ahmed Ali Alshamsi, Chief Executive Officer of EWEC, the collaboration represents a significant step in advancing the UAEโ€™s energy transition. He highlighted that EWEC is playing a central role in driving the shift toward sustainable, utility-scale power and water production.

He noted that the framework will help accelerate the development of solar photovoltaic capacity expected to exceed 30GW by 2035 and integrate more than 8GW of battery energy storage systems. He also emphasized that the initiative supports the goal of meeting 60% of Abu Dhabiโ€™s energy demand from renewable and clean sources by 2035, while strengthening supply security and reducing system costs.

The agreement also aligns with the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative.Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, Chief Executive Officer of Masdar, stated that the agreement further strengthens the long-standing partnership between Masdar and EWEC. He noted that the collaboration will accelerate the deployment of innovative clean energy solutions, including large-scale solar and storage projects, while helping to diversify the UAEโ€™s energy portfolio.
