The Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) filed a petition with the Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) seeking approval for a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL). The project under consideration is a pilot initiative involving a grid-connected 35 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) system paired with a 57 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), located at the Kutch Lignite Thermal Power Station in Pandhro.
On behalf of GUVNL, it was presented that following a previous order by the Commission, public notices were issued in various newspapers to invite comments and objections from stakeholders regarding the project. The deadline passed without receiving any responses, and GUVNL submitted an affidavit confirming compliance with the required procedures.
GSECL, responsible for setting up the solar PV and battery storage project, highlighted that they had conducted a bidding process in 2021, selecting a contractor who successfully commissioned the project by April 2024. The energy generated has since been integrated into the grid and supplied to GUVNL at a tariff rate, which GSECL intends to finalize through a separate petition.
The Commission took note of these developments and the absence of any stakeholder objections. It directed GSECL to submit a new petition to finalize the tariff rate, supported by relevant data and documentation. Additionally, both parties were instructed to submit any final written statements within ten days to complete the procedural requirements.
The case has now been reserved for a final order, with both GUVNL and GSECL having completed their respective presentations to the Commission.
